The Great Science Share for Schools (GSSfS) is a fantastic annual campaign to encourage children’s curiosity, questioning, investigating and sharing science. Now in its sixth year – and online again in 2021 – I love the GSSfS so much that I’m a Regional Champion.
If you’re not sure where to start, or what it’s all about, I’ve put together some handy tips for teachers.
You can do as much or as little as you like for the GSSfS. From a one-off lesson, or linked to current curriculum topics, to a longer term investigation. In previous years, there have been large scale local events linking schools, businesses, parents, universities and the community, as well as smaller in-class or in-school events, to share children’s science. Last year it moved online during lockdown and was perhaps even bigger and better, with 91,000+ children joining in worldwide! Online again this year to help keep everybody safe, there are even more opportunities to get involved.

From weekly themed resources, webcasts, connections with real life scientists, live lessons, create-alongs, book links, teacher packs, share sheets and question makers, and a road map of how to get involved at each stage, there is a whole host of help available to support and inspire your children to ask, and answer, scientific questions.
