✨ 2025: A Year in Review ✨
A year filled with teaching, professional learning, outreach, leadership, and a few unforgettable moments along the way. Here’s a snapshot of what 2025 looked like for me 👇
As 2025 draws to a close, I’ve been reflecting on what has been an exceptionally full and rewarding year across science education, outreach, professional learning, and a few unforgettable experiences.
Highlights included attending the Association for Science Education Annual Conference, where I presented a session on retrieval practice in primary science education, and continuing my work supporting schools through the Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM). This involved delivering Royal Society of Chemistry-funded CPD, running PSQM hubs, reviewing submissions, and becoming a member of the PSQM Expert Advisory Group. I also continued to serve on the ASE Teacher Developers Committee and wrote articles for ASE Primary Science Journal and Teach Primary.
In teaching, I wrapped up my time teaching primary science in Saudi and began teaching STEAM and Nature classes at the £2 Tuition Hub, and Curiosity Club at The Elemental House. Alongside this, I delivered wide-ranging CPD for teachers, covering working scientifically, science capital, outreach, research and data integrity, and outdoor learning, while also engaging in CPD myself to continue developing my own practice.
A significant strand of the year focused on research culture and integrity. I delivered research integrity training for scientists at Newcastle University, ran train-the-trainer sessions for universities and research institutes, and delivered training for the Babraham Institute. I also facilitated I Am Remarkable sessions and took part in live text chats with students through I’m A Scientist.
Outreach and public engagement continued to be a major highlight. I delivered six sustainable science masterclasses with the Science & Engineering Education Research Innovation Hub, presented workshops and shows at the Festival of Tomorrow, Norwich Science Festival, and Croucher Science Week (Hong Kong), and delivered 20+ additional enrichment workshops in schools across the UK and Europe. I also took part in the Great Science Share for Schools at Colchester Zoo.
2025 also included some extraordinary moments. I delivered four lectures as part of a prize tour, including a show at the Royal Institution of Great Britain, where I was honoured to receive the Royal Society of Chemistry Excellence in Primary Education Prize. I presented twice as part of Demo Team Unleashed, supported behind the scenes at the Christmas Lectures, and played a tiny part in the Royal Institution Demo Team winning the Royal Society Hawksbee Prize.
Beyond the classroom and stage, I visited 10 Downing Street and the Houses of Parliament to share children’s letters about why science education matters to them, attended the BBC Science Showcase featuring my work on Get Set Galactic, was interviewed by a group of thoughtful, climate-conscious children, drove Aston Martins round a track and toured the ARAMCO Formula 1 Team factory, and yes – I even found time to cuddle some goats at the Agricultural Science Unit Open Day 🐐.
I’m hugely grateful to the schools, institutions, colleagues, communities, and young people who made 2025 such a meaningful year. Challenging, joyful, and deeply energising — and I’m excited to see what 2026 brings.
